Blog Two, Looking Back

Hello again! So previously I explained where I want to be in the future and what I hope to achieve throughout my career, now I'm going to look back at my journey so far...

In 2015, after a year living in London, trying to break into the creative industry, I decided to start a course at New York Film Academy to develop more skills in filmmaking. It was an intense, practical course in all things film, from screenwriting through to editing. Living and creating in the city that never sleeps was an experience I will never forget! Armed with this training and some short films to kick start my portfolio I returned to the UK and began freelancing.

After a year gaining work experience, learning on the job to use a variety of cameras and editing software, I was keen to work abroad again.

This lead me to Spain, to a production studio where I became part of the team who produced TV episodes for a local online channel. It was great to be involved from beginning to end of projects and to get the opportunity to direct some of my own segments.

At the end of 2017 I moved back to London to start a camera operator and video editor job at carwow, a successful YouTube channel producing videos of car reviews and races. You can see their channel here. This was a fun but fast-paced environment with lots of deadlines, it gave me invaluable experience and built up my skills in editing, including learning After Effects.

London brings many creative opportunities, I entered a documentary in a day competition! My team created a documentary on gaming which we went on to win the competition with! You can see the film here.

Following a year at carwow I decided to take some time away to travel, this gave me so many wonderful stories, I discovered my passion for photography and made some short films. This time also made me realise that its never too late to return to education and that there's always more to learn.

This lead me to SAE Institute, the two year accelerated course was very appealing to me as I didn't want to have a bigger gap in my CV and the hand-on nature would suit my learning style. I believe it will bring me new skills and strengthen the ones I already have, giving me the confidence to build a successful career!

Along side this degree I continue to edit remotely for carwow which keeps me connected to the industry. I look forward to how my time at SAE will challenge me and what doors it will open for me in the future.
